I have not hung a bear bag in at least a decade, and I find it to be so irrelevant that I no longer include a bear-hanging module in the curriculum for my guided trips. It’s an outdated and ineffective method of food storage, and backpackers (and bears) would benefit from a reprogramming of this topic.
Vancouver-based Nautilus Minerals is scheduled to begin mining extinct hydrothermal vents in Papua New Guinea’s coastal waters in 2019 for copper, gold zinc and silver. Nautilus says the Solwara I project will be able to produce copper at 80 cents a pound, which would make it competitive with some of the largest land-based copper sites. Chile’s Escondida mine has a cash cost of $1 a pound of copper.
Good start Fescue! Your estimate of annual output from a 2MW wind turbine seems reasonable – based on a capacity factor of 0.34.
Through an acquaintance who teaches geography at Kinmen High School, I arrange to interview students there. When I arrive on a rainy evening, Hong Xiangwen is waiting for me outside the student dormitory, long hair pulled back in a ponytail, wearing a tracksuit with the schoolâs name on it. She and a classmate both hold out their umbrellas, smiling shyly. Hong is 17 years old and bashful; she keeps ducking her head and burying her face in part of her collar. By contrast, her classmate Yang Xiaojun, a bright-eyed 17-year-old, âloves to talk,â as she tells me quickly. Soon we establish a rhythm as we sit at little chair-desks in an empty classroom: I ask Hong a question, then turn to Yang when she doesnât seem to want to answer. Yang is very happy to help.
When I return to Chaste Maiden Temple, I ask Hong about another source of tension between Kinmen and Xiamen: sand-stealing. âIs it true mainland boats come up to the coast here at night and extract sand to sell? The newspapers say itâs causing erosion on Kinmen,â I say.

The building attracted tens of thousands of people in the first couple of years, Orr recalled, and acted as an incubator and laboratory for the development of many unprecedented building techniques that have now been adopted all over the world.
The airfield grew tremendously after World War II, with runways and facilities expanding to accommodate larger jets.
Poor annie57. She spent so much time reading all these publications and then at 2:46 in the morning exhausted, she wrote the message above which is larger than Mr. Voutsinos’ editorial. What is the message that she is trying to send us – simply that BAD OIL is eliminating jobs by using automation, while GOOD WIND does not use automation and its jobs are here to stay. 1) she was too tired to understand that she was comparing apples and oranges. Most of the oil industry jobs are operating equipment, while most of the jobs in the wind industry are restricted to the duration of construction. 2) She claims that the wind industry invests $3 billion per year in Alberta, but again, she was so exhausted from her research that she missed that the Alberta Oil and Gas income is about $1 trillion per year. This is three orders of magnitude larger and hence there is no comparison to the small local wind industry that needs subsidies to stand on its own feet. 3) She assumes that robots and automation will fall from the sky overnight, not realizing that it will take several years to achieve automation. Even then, the jobs that will be created to mine materials, design, manufacture, program and validate the robots will be thousands of times more than those in the entire wind industry. 4) Quite correctly; however, annie57 excludes the possibility that the Wind Industry will automate. She knows that her whole industry is structured in such a way that at the drop of a hat they can go bankrupt and run away leaving the problem of decommissioning to the hapless farmers that provided the land.
Worker Killed on GI Joe 2 in New Orleans Employer: Long Branch Productions LLC & Paramount Pictures, Inc. On November 22, 2011, employees were using a SkyJack scissor lift (Model Number SJ3226) to dismantle the walls of a movie set stage. Employee #1 attempted to drive the scissor lift, in the lowered position, down a ramp on the side of the stage. The ramp was inclined 15 degrees and was 4 feet wide by approximately 23 feet long. While attempting to navigate the curve from the stage to the ramp, which ran parallel to the stage, the scissor lift bottomed out on the top of the ramp and became caught on the guardrail. Other employees pulled the guardrail back to dislodge the lift. When Employee #1 drove forward, the lift went off the side of the ramp and fell approximately 5 feet to the concrete floor. Employee #1 sustained a serious head injury and he was killed.
Yes. I’d say, Steve, going forward, as we move even more of the revenue base on that, it definitely is a lower cost to serve. It’s a natural for us where we have over half our revenues with major customers that understand the efficiency of e-commerce. So we have multiyear MRO contracts with them. They have cross-referenced parts. We have pricing established. The terms and condition all established. So it really lends itself to the ease for them to order in their system, cross-reference to our catalog and places the order into our system very seamlessly. So it’s part of our model. We’ll deal with them, all of our customers at a transactional basis and the branches if that’s the preferred, we’ll do the multi-year contracts and large purchases for them. And we’ll also offer, with the items we have in stock for them and for their contract, really easy way for them to do business with us through the catalog. So I think it’s a trend that’s going to continue and we are investing to even enhance that better as I mentioned. So I think that is a growing part of our business mix.
