Serious Head Injury on ABC’s Castle Employer: ABC Studios, Aka Castle/ABC Studios, Los Angeles At approximately 2:22 a.m. on January 18, 2013, an incident occurred when Employee #1, a stuntman, was to perform a stunt involving the kidnapping of another person. The stunt was performed at a street on the back lot of a television studio. The stunt involved the carrying of another coworker into the open sliding door of a stopped cargo van. The van door was to begin to close and the van was to drive out of camera view. During the first filming of the scene, the stuntman carried the other actor into the van. The van door was latched closed and the van accelerated out of the scene while turning to the left. On the second “take” the door was not closed prior to the movement of the van. Employee #1 thrown out of the right side sliding van door. Employee #1 sustained serious head injuries when his head struck the pavement. Employee #1 was taken to a local area hospital, where surgery was performed due to his injuries from the accident.

Since the initial observation that HIV-1 Vpr was coisolated with CUL4A, the concept that Vpr and Vpx assemble with, and act exclusively through, CUL4A-containing CRL4 complexes has been propagated in numerous studies. Whether Vpr and Vpx act through CUL4A- or CUL4B-containing CRL4 complexes has not been investigated until now. In this work, we demonstrate that Vpr or Vpx can utilize either CUL4A or CUL4B to promote CRL4-dependent functions. These findings extend our understanding of the relationship between the CRL4 complex and HIV and highlight the importance of both CUL4 types in Vpr or Vpx function.

The Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers (DCJS) will present an afternoon of Negro Spirituals at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 24 at the St. Paul’s AME Zion Church, 610 E. Eagle St., Buffalo, N.Y. The DCJS, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, Ithaca-based organization, is dedicated to preserving the Negro Spiritual and its themes of sorrow, despair, and hope to promote racial healing and social justice; and to furthering civil rights leader Dorothy Cotton’s message of freedom and hope through music. DCJS has more than 90 members, including some 20 Ithaca College voice students, who perform many of the solos, alongside community members of different ages (11 to 81), heritages and backgrounds. It is led by Founding Director Dr. Baruch Whitehead associate professor of music education at Ithaca College. The diverse chorus performs locally and throughout the region; the singers have performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Clemens Center in Elmira, and in Rochester, Buffalo, Toronto, Harlem and Brooklyn. They will perform in Goldsboro, N.C., and again at the Kennedy Center in May 2019. The group is named in honor of the late Ithaca resident Dorothy Cotton, the civil rights pioneer who served as education director for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She often delivered her messages of freedom and hope through music.
