Joel Rode of Hot Rod Specialties has taken delivery of the chassis, disassembled it, had it powdercoated, reassembled it, and performed the body drop. The car is now in a Southern California body shop being prepped and painted in a delicious two-tone scheme. It will be returned to Hot Rod Specialties for final assembly once the body is in paint.

4. Robotic Cell. The company recently purchased another CNC machine, a Cloos Qirox QR-CC-4.1 compact robotic welding cell. It is a ready-to-weld system equipped with a two-station workpiece positioner with vertical change and vertical rotation. It provides excellent welding results, reduces secondary processing times, and speeds the entire process run, Jennifer said. “This will increase our speed of high-volume welded assemblies, and should increase efficiency exponentially. Initially we are going to utilize the machine to weld concrete form assemblies and eventually our stair treads,” she added. 

To fit the side bumper brace, I just welded a few studs to the outside of the frame, since I had no desire to drill four holes through four 1/8-inch thick walls. Unfortunately, the weld beads at the base of the studs meant the side brace coming from the corner of the bumper to the frame couldn’t go flush with the rail, so the brace is now a bit too long, and will need to be cut down to the right size. This isn’t particularly elegant, I’ll admit.
