You may have noticed that the classic bear hang does not make my list of recommended protection techniques. I discourage bear hangs of any variety, including the counterbalance and PCT method. I may elaborate on this in a future post, but in general I find them to be:

"You just try to instill some self-respect. If you talk to me nicely, I’ll talk to you the same as you talk to me, and we’re going to get on well. The only thing we’ve got, the best thing, is words."In those long shifts on the cellblock, Ogle sequesters his feelings about the way things played out in fighting, too. He’s moved on, but it’s obvious he wants to liberate those feelings, too. To set them free, and direct them the right way. One day, he says, he hopes to be the governor of the prison. "I want to delegate," he says.

Yes. I’d say, Steve, going forward, as we move even more of the revenue base on that, it definitely is a lower cost to serve. Unless your hang is textbook perfect, a determined black or grizzly bear will probably get your food. No hang method is immune. Bears have been known to chew through cords, break tree limbs or trunks, and lunge at food bags, tearing them open as they fall. Sometimes they send their cubs out on the limb to do the dirty work for them.
